about
Here is a fictional story of a couple. In the story, the guy has hurt his wife, and is so afraid that she will leave him that instead of going to her and admitting his guilt, he decides he'll just run away rather than face her. He thinks, "Well, if I run away, she can't leave me."
I wrote this song because I think we do this... We run away from the One we've hurt rather than face Him, not knowing all along that He still wants us and is still pursuing us. In the story, the husband finds that his wife has run to catch him and and find him so that she can show him her forgiveness and love... I have known this kind of love from my wife and from Jesus, and yet sometimes I still feel that desire to run... Grace is getting sweeter though, and it's wearing me down. Enjoy.
lyrics
SO I RAN
The coffee’s black, the light is red
It won’t change back, like the words that I said
And the nonstop raindrops fall on my head
You say I lie, well okay
But what was I supposed to say?
Stranded, redhanded, I ran away
So I ran for cover
And I ran for keeps
Thought if I don’t see you
Then You can’t leave me
The sun is low, but rising now
By this time You know that I’m not around
I’m brittle and little and broken on the ground
I know I should turn after while
But I just won’t learn, and I won’t see You smile
A manufactured, fractured hurt is my style
(CHORUS)
The coffee’s black, the light is green
I want to go back, but don’t want to be seen
Beside me, it can’t be, it’s You... You found me
Oh You ran to find me
And You ran so hard
You thought if You could just have me
You would give Your heart
