about
I just finished reading C.S. Lewis' book, "That Hideous Strength" again and wrote this song about his main character, Mark and how a moment of crisis changed his whole life. Enjoy.
lyrics
RANSOM ME
Or, The Sad and Sorry Tale of Bracton’s Own Mark Studdock
What am i supposed to say,
And can you show me how to walk that way
And tell me clearly what i’m supposed to do?
I don’t know what i’m dealing with
And what if it’s all a myth?
I just want to be on the inside too
So pour me another drink and tuck me right back down
Part of me wants to think
And part of me knows that I cannot leave town
I left my ethics at the old roadside
‘cause it feels good when they stroke that pride
It didn’t take long to break up all the rules
I steered opinions of doubt and fear,
Told the people what they want to hear
What do I care, they’re just a bunch of fools
Give me a minute to think and please don’t make a sound
Well, in the time that it took me to blink
Everyone around me has brought me tumbling
Down and down I fall, down I fell so free
I’m far too weak to crawl, ransom me, ransom me
How is this relevant?
Tell me, what’s He got to do with it
I’ve never cared, but man I just don’t know
Don’t you feel how wrong it would be?
He won’t defend Himself from me
Somehow that’s as far as I can go

Thank you, Mr. Lewis for your wonderful imagination. I can't wait to find out what happened next for Mark and Jane.
