Neil Gaiman (author of Coraline) wrote a wonderful and delightful novel called "The Graveyard Book" which I read sometime last year. The other day I thought about how cool that book was and wrote this little song for the main character, Bod.
lyrics
NOT ANYBODY
I’m not anybody you know so please don’t ask me
To tell you things I can’t explain to you;
An outsider, oh please don’t take it that way
It’s nothing quite so personal, it’s just the way it is
I am walking the old town tonight; i might even see you
If things decide to go my way
But you won’t lay your eyes on me, I’m like a stain on a sidewalk
That no one even notices, I’m that inconspicuous
See, I just slip away like smoke into the shadows
And you’ll forget me when I’m gone
Everything I say, just like the summer breeze blows
Or like some one-hit wonder song
you notice it and then it’s gone away
My life is surrounded by curious and indifferent
People that you cannot see
I’m not sure where I came from and not convinced where I’m going
But I’ve made friends along the way, from generations passed away
(CHORUS)
