The best thing about the Gospel is also the hardest thing to believe and the easiest thing to forget once you do believe it: namely that God loves me just the way I am, so I don't have to be more or improve on that or shine it up in order to curry more favor from Him or increase His love for me. As unlikely as it seems, He really likes us and He just wants us the way we are.
lyrics
I DON’T HAVE TO
I don’t have to be somebody
I don’t have to win
I don’t have to prove myself
over and over again
I don’t have to pretend I’m something
I don’t have to hide
I don’t have to try and be
Something that is just a lie
It can be hard to believe
But You want me, just me
I don’t have to hate myself,
Every single time I fall
I don’t have to put on airs
Or make believe I’m standing tall
I guess I could clean up my act
I could try to behave
But the folks who don’t need help
Are not the ones You came to save
As crazy as it seems
You want me, just me
I don’t have to base my life
On some standard I can’t keep
You don’t want me to be anybody
But plain-old me
