In the Old Testament, God tells a guy named Hosea to take a wife who will be unfaithful to him. He did, and she was. She ran around on him and had kids that looked nothing like Hosea. She wound up leaving and became a prostitute and eventually a slave for sale on the auction block. God told Hosea to go down there, buy her back and woo her with his love... Hosea did. It's a difficult and heart-wrenching story, but maybe God just wanted someone to know how it feels to be Him. This song is from her perspective a few months after finally coming home from being redeemed... so glad to be home, so glad to be loved, just like we ought to feel everyday.
lyrics
I CAN’T BELIEVE
After I left him from the start
And after oh, so many tears
After the times I broke his heart
I can’t believe that I am here
After the papers had been served
And the times I’ve been so severe
After all that I deserved,
I can’t believe that I am here
I can’t believe I’m in this bed
After the things I chose instead
From the life I was so tired of
I’m under his roof, under his love
I’m waking up to dreams I can’t believe
To be together in this house
After the places I have been
To know that he calls me his spouse
I never want to leave again
