This is a re-work of an old Christmas hymn written by John Barnard way back in 1753. Mr. Barnard wrote his bit all those years ago, but I just put his words to a new melody and chord progression. Enjoy!
lyrics
NATIONS THAT LONG IN DARKNESS WALKED
Words: John Barnard, 1753
Nations that long in darkness walked
Have now seen a glorious light
On them who dwelt in shades of death
The light shines heavenly bright
For Lo! The virgin’s Child is born
The Son of God is given
Upon His shoulders shall be laid
The rule of earth and heaven
His name is called Wonderful
The Counselor, the Mighty God
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace
Peace dearly purchased with blood,
Peace dearly purchased with blood
His government shall know no bounds,
But over all extend
And happy peace, the glorious fruits
Of His reign shall know no end
(CHORUS)
Over David’s kingdom, on his throne
To establish it secure
With judgment clear and justice right,
His reign shall forever endure
(CHORUS)
